Philanthropy

The Theta Chapter of Phi Sigma Sigma is extremely devoted to service and philanthropy on both national and local levels. Once per academic year, we organize an event to support our national philanthropy: The Phi Sigma Sigma Foundation, which benefits The National Kidney Foundation.

Last fall, we held "Kidney Skate '08", and we were able do donate a large sum to our national organization to help support research to cure kidney disease and other kidney malfunctions. People from all over the UIUC campus came and participated, and a great time was had by all.

In addition to supporting our national philanthropy, the Theta Chapter also provides support for local organizations as well. Earlier in Fall 2009, we decorated goodie bags and made cards which we sent to child dialysis patients at local dialysis centers. We also are involved with the CU Crisis Nursery, and routinely have a team that participates in Relay for Life.

On top of all that, several of our sisters choose to participate in Philanthropy Events hosted by other Greek fraternities and sororities on campus. Last spring, four of our sisters participated in the Illinois Marathon Relay to help raise money for Push America, Pi Kappa Phi's nationa philanthropy. Additionally, every fall, a group of our sisters enjoys getting down and dirty in Alpha Omega Pi's Mud Olympics. (Yes, it's just what it sounds like and it's a blast!) Those are just a few examples...

We've all found that through supporting others, we've not only had fun, but we've formed bonds that bring us closer together as well.
