Formal vs. Informal Recruitment
Every university with a Greek system does recruitment a little differently. Some only do it spring semester, some do it just during the fall semester, and some schools have recruitment periods once per term. This is called "static recruitment", better known in the Panhellenic community as Formal Recruitment.

Alternately, some organizations participate in what is called "dynamic recruitment", a process which occurs without a set beginning or end. Organizations that choose dynamic recruitment are always on the lookout for people whom they feel possess valuable assets which will allow the group to reach its ultimate potential. The Greek community knows this as Informal Recruitment.

Our Phi Sigma Sigma chapter finds people through Informal Recruitment. We believe that it is beneficial to our chapter to meet women on a more "one-by-one" basis. Once we meet, we love to learn about them a casual and comfortable setting before possibly extending them an offer to become a part of our sisterhood. Informal Recruitment allows the chapter as a whole to decide if a woman is right for us, and in turn it allows the great women we are meeting plenty of time to decide if we are right for them. After all, you wouldn't invite just
anybody into your family, right?

In the end, this is what we feel makes the bonds between the women in our chapter stronger.

Are you right for Phi Sigma Sigma?...
While we don't care about your hair color, where you come from, or how much money you have, we do care about
who you are ! Phi Sigma Sigma is on the lookout for high quality women--ones who are strong academically, involved in the U of I community, and who enjoy giving back to the community.

The Phi Sigma Sigma motto is "Diokete Hupsala". Translated from Greek, it means "aim high", and that's what we like to do--aim high to achieve our ultimate potential in all we do.

Women in our chapter have to maintain a
minimum 2.5 GPA and also be active in two other organizations on campus. Throughout the course of the semester, they are also expected to participate in philanthropic activities, either within the Greek community or otherwise.

Within our chapter, we provide strong support for each other--academically, emotionally, physically and mentally. We look for women who want to and will be able to become an active part of that network.

Is Phi Sigma Sigma Right for You?...
If you've read a bit about us and we sound like something you might be interested in being a part of, or even if you just have questions, please feel free to e-mail our Recruitment Chair, Natasa at

Trust us--it's not weird to e-mail us out of interest!
